Grunge no longer alludes only to the rebellious 80's alternative rock scene. Grunge is now stylish. This season from the runway, designers reinvented the unkempt looks of the by-gone era with an added couture feel: plaid shirts are paired with feminine floral patterns and inviting transparent slip-on dresses, not to mention mesh stockings and leather skirts. The result is laid-back, yet daring ensemble as seen most notably in Saint Laurent and Givenchy collections:
The fast-fashion houses tone down the trend beautifully, for us commoners who cannot live with the idea of adorning see-through dresses and leather in broad day light (does not mean you should not try!) The new lookbooks from various high street brands all vested in the elements of grunge, though most subtly, through traditional plaid shirts and floral dresses, turning the seemingly rebellious trend into an autumn-worthy pattern play. Complete the looks with a studded ankle boots and voila, you had it: the totally trendy grungy look version 2013.

I always find it amazing how the latest runway trends are timely interpreted into more every-day fashion season after season. A lot of people question the sanity of fashion designers by exclaiming "who wears that out?" after each fashion week, yet rush to the stores when Mango introduces their newest collection for example, without even realizing they are all just parts of the grand system called the "fashion industry."
